BOARD POSITION INFORMATION |
|
All positions are generally three year commitments and
attendance at meetings (held monthly before gatherings) is expected.
Most positions have room for assistants, so even if you aren’t ready to
be the main person in any area, feel free to volunteer to sit 2nd chair for a year.

Chair -
Oversees the Board – keeps the monthly
meetings moving; Reports to the community at gatherings and through the
newsletter; Sees that appropriate Lay Directors are selected by the
board in a timely fashion; Oversees the Team Selection Committee; Keeps in contact with current Lay Directors as needed; Keeps in contact with Epworth regarding walk dates –
secures dates with Epworth; Keeps in contact with Upper Room as needed – signs and
carries out Upper Room agreement; Shares briefly at closing; Remains on board one year after as Past Chair |
Vice Chair -
Steps in for chair when necessary; Secures Church for walks; Works to fill open board positions and recruits for next
year’s board; Generally will serve
1st year as Vice Chair, 2nd year as Chair and 3rd
as Past Chair |

Community Spiritual Director
(generally the final
year on the board) - Coordinates clergy for walks – oversees board clergy |
Clergy Representative
(generally in year two on the
board) -
Coordinates clergy for candlelight and sponsors hours; Prepares to serve as Community Spiritual Director in
Year 3 |

Gathering Clergy Representative
(generally in year
one on the board) -Coordinates clergy to serve communion at gatherings; Makes sure elements are at gathering; Coordinates with Worship Leader regarding
4th Day speakers and other worship
elements; Prepares to serve as clergy rep in year 2 and Spiritual
Director in Year 3 |
Treasurer -
Keeps all financial records for the
community; Pays bills in timely fashion – including Pilgrim Fees to
Upper Room; Reports to the board the financial state of the
community; Responsible to give receipts to donors who give over
$400/year (not including registration fees) |
Secretary -
Keeps minutes of meetings; Does minimal communication when necessary |
Registrar -
Receives registrations from pilgrims; Sends letters to pilgrims and sponsors with walk
information; Communicates with Lay Director of Walk pilgrim
information Provides pilgrim list for walk |
Agape Chair -
Recruits volunteers to work the agape
crew for walks; Keeps agape schedule, packet info etc. in an orderly
fashion; Keeps track of number of agape available for each walk; Communicates with supplies chair when supplies are
needed |
Logistics Chair -
Recruits volunteers to work the
logistics crew for walks; Keeps logistics schedule; Communicates with supplies chair when supplies are
needed |
Kitchen Chair -
Recruits volunteers to work the
kitchen for walks; Orders/buys/secures all food (including communion
elements) for the walks; Communicates with supplies chair when supplies are
needed; Communicates with treasurer for finances |
Supplies Chair -
Works with Logistics/Agape/Kitchen
Chairs as well as Lay Directors to secure all supplies; Communicates with treasurer for funding; Brings paper products to gatherings |
Book Table Chair -
Secures items to be sold on Book
Table; Recruits volunteers to man the table |
Prayer Vigil Coordinator -
Gets the 72 Hour prayer
vigil filled for each walk. May include online, at gatherings and by phone. May recruit a team to help get
it filled |
Worship Leader -
Secures locations to hold gatherings
each month; Makes sure someone is there to lead worship at
gatherings; May secure special music and or 4th Day talks for gatherings; Works with Community Spiritual Directors to coordinate
gatherings; May revamp song books, create new song sheets, etc.; Reports to CCLI when necessary |
Communications Coordinator -
Prepares Newsletter, updates website
(or communicates with webservant), sends mid-month e-mail updates, sends news releases to news
paper and radio about upcoming gatherings, sends invitations to churches who are local
to upcoming gatherings. Gets the word out about Emmaus. |
Community Development -
Coordinates with churches to
send Emmaus representatives from the Ohio Valley Emmaus Community to their church to let them know
about Emmaus (could be included in communications) |
Good Shepherd -
Keeps a list of active share groups
and helps new members find a share group (prayer vigil coordinator used to fall in the category) |
Recorder -
Receives info about each walk and keeps it neatly
organized |
